Herts Welcomes Refugees provides a range of assistance and support to refugees and asylum seekers across the county of Hertfordshire to complement that provided by local councils and the Refugee Council’s Hertfordshire Resettlement Project. They also help some refugees and asylum seekers who are not supported by either the Refugee Council or local councils.
Herts Welcomes Refugees typically supports refugee families in a number of valuable ways. The COSARAF Foundation grant is specifically used to employ a Volunteer Coordinator who recruits volunteers to HWR’s s Befriender /Language Support network, giving individuals the opportunity to practise their English in an informal setting and, where requested, providing additional educational support to children and young people. This network can and has also helped with transport and other needs.
