The COSARAF Foundation is delighted to announce the renewal of our partnership with GEAR Trust UK, formalised through a new £40,000 grant agreement. This renewed commitment marks a significant expansion of our shared work in Pakistan, strengthening community infrastructure, deepening educational access, and widening pathways to economic independence for women and young people.
GEAR Trust has been a central partner in COSARAF’s place‑based strategy in Pakistan. Their work has contributed to a thriving ecosystem of enterprise, microfinance and community engagement.
This renewal builds on that foundation, where we will continue empowering women into enterprise with micro-finance loans, but also introduce three major new projects that will significantly expand GEAR’s reach and long‑term impact.
New Projects Funded Under the 2026–27 Grant
1. Establishment of New Preschools in Mehran Town
COSARAF is funding the creation of new preschools to provide early‑years education for children aged 3–5. These preschools will:
- Offer foundational literacy and numeracy
- Provide safe, structured learning environments
- Support working mothers by offering reliable childcare
- Strengthen long‑term educational outcomes in Pakistan
Early‑years provision has been a critical gap in the community. These preschools will ensure children begin school with the confidence, social skills, and developmental readiness needed to thrive.
2. Refurbishment of Local Mosques
The renewed grant includes funding to refurbish mosques that serve as vital community hubs. Improvements will focus on:
- Structural repairs
- Safe, accessible facilities
- Enhanced spaces for women and children
- Upgraded classrooms for religious and community education
Mosques play a central role in social cohesion, spiritual wellbeing and community identity. These refurbishments will ensure they remain safe, welcoming and fully functional spaces for all.
3. Micro‑Finance Programme for Muslim Scholars
In addition to women’s enterprise loans, COSARAF is funding a new micro‑finance initiative specifically for Muslim scholars, enabling:
- Small, interest‑free loans to support scholars’ livelihoods
- Opportunities to develop micro‑businesses
- Financial stability for individuals who play key roles in community leadership and education
This programme reflects COSARAF’s commitment to strengthening religious leadership and supporting those who contribute to community guidance, teaching and social support.
