COSARAF supports a day of connection and belonging for new Muslims

The news

The COSARAF Charitable Foundation awarded a £5,000 small grant to support a community event that brought together more than 450 people for a day of learning, friendship and connection.

Held on 20 September 2026, the Revert Muslims & Community Day welcomed new Muslims, established members of the Muslim community, non-Muslim visitors, families and local residents. Organised through a collaboration between six north London mosques, the event created a welcoming space for people from different backgrounds to meet, share experiences and build relationships.

For those who have embraced Islam, finding a supportive community can be an important part of their journey. The event sought to address the isolation that some new Muslims experience, offering opportunities to meet others with shared experiences, speak with mentors and community leaders, and discover local support networks and activities.

The programme combined talks from Yusuf Chambers, Yasmin Dragoni, Abdul Wahid Patterson and Sister Aisha with family activities, shared meals and informal conversations. Its relaxed outdoor setting encouraged attendees to spend time together, with many staying for several hours to connect with others.

One attendee reflected: “We stayed for hours because it was a really nice community feel and we got to speak to many reverts.” Others praised the welcoming atmosphere, thoughtful talks and opportunities to build friendships.

The day also gave non-Muslim guests an opportunity to learn more about Islam and meet members of the local Muslim community, helping to encourage understanding and positive community relations.

Through its Small Grants Fund, COSARAF is pleased to support initiatives that respond to local needs and bring people together. This event demonstrated how community collaboration can create valuable opportunities for belonging, mutual support and lasting connections.
