Naila
Naila, an immunocompromised patient, sought a way to earn and afford her medical expenses while receiving strong support from her husband. She learned about the GEAR Women Self-Employment Program through her friend and GEAR’s dedicated field officer in her area. Encouraged by their guidance, Naila pursued her long-held desire to set up a beauty parlor, which the GEAR team helped foster and grow. With an initial investment of PKR 30,000 provided by GEAR-COSARAF funding support, she started her business, attracting her first customers through word-of-mouth recommendations. Over time, she expanded her client base using WhatsApp statuses and connections with school teachers, with her husband playing a supportive role.
Despite her health challenges, including difficulty walking, Naila remains determined to grow her business. She currently operates independently with her husband’s assistance and envisions expanding her services online by creating a website and social media presence. Her ultimate goal is to own a physical parlor where clients can visit her directly. Through her journey, she has felt an increased connection to God, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunities and support she has received. She also hopes her success will inspire other women facing hardships.
