Advantage Africa supports young people with intellectual disabilities in Kenya to transition out of school and into their own enterprise.

Michael Remi, a 23 year old young man, suffers with Cerebral Palsy  which causes moderate learning disabilities and leaves him physically disabled.

With the help of Advantage Africa, Michael successfully transitioned out of school over a year ago, and is doing well rearing his own sheep which have increased in number from two to three. He comes from a very poor family of four children and a single mother who is a hairdresser. The main challenge for Michael is mobility. The rough terrain around the home makes moving in his wheelchair very difficult. Although he’s independent around the house, there are some concerns about loneliness when other family members are out. Teacher Esther is planning to encourage other school-leavers to visit Michael at home.
