Jenifha

Earlier this year, Jenifha took part in the Transition from School for Children with Intellectual Disabilities project in Kenya — a programme delivered in partnership with Advantage Africa and supported by COSARAF. With the right support behind her, she’s now building a future rooted in independence and purpose.

At 22 years old, Jenifha is embracing a new chapter in life after completing her schooling in March 2025. A young mother with moderate learning disabilities, she has transitioned from school to self-reliance through a home-based farming initiative, thanks to a small grant from COSARAF. With the funds, she acquired a heifer and established a small farming enterprise on her family’s one-acre plot.

Jenifha lives with her father, a subsistence farmer, and had already gained practical agricultural experience both at school and at home. Her skills in cultivating vegetables, rearing poultry, and milking cows laid a strong foundation for her current venture. Supported by her family, community members, and teachers, she now feels confident and excited about building her future through farming.

Her journey reflects the project’s wider aim—supporting young people with intellectual disabilities to transition successfully from school into meaningful livelihoods. Through home visits, practical assistance, and community involvement, the school and project team ensured Jenifha had the support she needed to thrive.
