Faith
Faith’s journey was shaped through the Transition from School for Children with Intellectual Disabilities project in Kenya — delivered in partnership with Advantage Africa and supported by COSARAF. With her family’s backing and a clear plan, she’s now thriving in a role that brings her both pride and joy.
Faith, a 23-year-old with moderate learning disabilities, completed school in March 2025 and transitioned to an independent life at home through small-scale farming. Passionate about animals and singing, she lives with her family on a half-acre farm. Recognising her interests and strengths, special needs teacher Monicah began working closely with Faith and her family in late 2024 to design a personalised plan for her future.
With support from a COSARAF grant and strong family commitment, Faith launched a small enterprise rearing sheep and chickens. Her family even constructed a spacious chicken house to support the new venture, despite facing financial challenges.
Faith is now thriving in her home-based activities and takes pride in her daily responsibilities. When asked if she would like to return to school, she responds with a confident “no,” expressing satisfaction and joy in her new, independent lifestyle.
