The news
We are delighted to announce the launch of our new three-year strategy for 2026–2029, setting out an ambitious vision to deepen our impact, strengthen partnerships, and support individuals and communities to thrive.
Building on strong progress in recent years, the new strategy reflects learning from partners, trustees and communities, alongside insights from our latest annual performance. It responds to a changing socio-economic landscape in the UK and internationally, where rising inequality, cost-of-living pressures and limited access to opportunity continue to affect young people, women and underserved communities.
At the heart of the strategy are three overarching aims, designed to guide our work over the next three years:
1. Deepening Long-Term, Place-Based Impact through Sustainable Community Development
We will focus on building deeper, more sustained impact within our priority geographies of the UK, Pakistan and Kenya, with targeted expansion into Zimbabwe. This will be achieved through a more focused portfolio of partnerships and the development of flagship, multi-year programmes that address the interconnected needs of communities.
The Foundation will prioritise initiatives that deliver sustainable change, strengthen local leadership and create integrated community ecosystems—bringing together education, enterprise, wellbeing and social cohesion. By investing in long-term partnerships and co-funding opportunities, we aim to support communities to become more resilient, self-sustaining and locally led.
2. Scaling Programmes and Creating Pathways in Education, Skills and Training to Develop Changemakers
Building on our strong track record, we will expand programmes that support young people, women and girls to overcome barriers and access life-changing opportunities. The Foundation will scale its work in education, vocational training, micro-finance and scholarships, while developing clearer pathways into employment, enterprise and further study.
Recognising that true transformation extends beyond technical skills, we will invest in holistic approaches that also strengthen confidence, wellbeing and leadership. Alongside this, the Foundation will play a more active role in convening its networks, bringing together alumni, scholars and community leaders to form a growing community of changemakers who support, inspire and learn from one another.
3. Building a Strong Ecosystem of Governance, Partnerships, Learning and Values to Sustain Long-Term Impact
To underpin our programme delivery, we will continue to strengthen our internal systems, governance and partnerships. This includes maintaining robust financial planning and oversight, enhancing governance structures, and deepening engagement with the wider Sheikh family to support the Foundation’s work.
The Foundation will also expand partnerships and collaborative efforts across the sector, working with like-minded organisations to share learning, co-fund initiatives and amplify impact. Through improved communications, stronger partner engagement and a commitment to continuous learning, we aim to contribute to a more connected and effective philanthropic ecosystem.
A More Focused and Collaborative Future
A central theme of the strategy is a shift towards greater focus, deeper partnerships and long-term sustainability. we will move towards fewer, more impactful partnerships, while continuing to support a range of smaller initiatives that deliver immediate impact and broaden its reach.
The Foundation will also strengthen its role as a convener, using its networks and platforms to bring partners together, share learning and amplify the voices and impact of the organisations it supports.
Looking Ahead
Speaking on the launch, Director Tashmina emphasised that the strategy is rooted in a clear ambition: to move beyond short-term support and towards lasting, sustainable impact.
By combining targeted investment in people, stronger community ecosystems and a commitment to collaboration and innovation, the Foundation aims to play a leading role in supporting more inclusive, resilient and thriving communities over the next three years.
