Raising Aspirations at St Anne’s

The first of three Diversity Days took place on the 1st November at St Anne’s College, Oxford.

The Diversity Days Programme, delivered by our partner Naz Legacy Foundation, held it’s first day for this academic year, on Wednesday 1st November. 23 students, from three different senior schools in East London, with pupils attending from year 10 and year 12, were hosted by St Anne’s College, University of Oxford.

Jackie, from the Widening Access team, started the morning with a session giving insights and tips on applying to the University, as well as discussing the differences in education at Oxford as opposed to other UK universities.

This was followed by a Q & A session with two of our Sheikh Family Scholars, with Ali, a medical student, detailing his super-currciular activities that he undertook in order to enhance his application to the university, as well as sharing his top tips on university life.

The scholars led the students on a tour around the College, with highlights at the new library and coffee bar, stopping at the first year common room and discussing the art installations on the campus.

"Today has made me really believe that I can maybe study here."

Following the tour, the students ended their day at The Ashmolean Museum, studying the various exhibits there and undertaking their own activity challenge exploring and identifying different artefacts.

A great day, allowing young people from diverse backgrounds, to understand how they can really access education at a top tier establishment.
