The news
We are proud to continue our commitment to healthcare and education by awarding a £3,000 grant to the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT)—Pakistan’s largest provider of free eye care for the underprivileged.
With over 3 million patients treated each year across 20 hospitals and 61 clinics, LRBT plays a vital role in ensuring that individuals, regardless of their financial status, have access to lifesaving and vision-restoring treatments. From cataract surgeries, which address the leading cause of blindness, to complex ocular cancer treatments, LRBT’s work transforms lives, giving hope to thousands who might otherwise face preventable blindness.
Providing Vision for a Brighter Future
This grant will support a one-day school eye screening camp at Kals Pajjay, a Read Foundation school that we also funded the construction of. Recognising the link between vision health and academic performance, this initiative aims to detect and address vision problems early, ensuring that children receive the care they need to thrive in their education and daily lives.
Studies show that a simple pair of glasses can reduce the odds of failing a class by 44%, making eye screening an essential intervention for schoolchildren. Through this programme, students who require further treatment or corrective eyewear will be referred to LRBT’s local hospitals and clinics, where they will receive specialised care at no cost.
A 40-Year Legacy of Sight and Service
As LRBT marks its 40th anniversary, its impact on communities across Pakistan continues to grow. The charity was founded on the belief that access to quality healthcare should not be a privilege but a right for all, and today, it stands as a beacon of hope, resilience, and service.
For us, this partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to support healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation. By funding this initiative, we hope to empower the next generation, ensuring that no child’s education is hindered by a treatable vision impairment.
Looking Ahead
This project is just one example of how strategic partnerships can drive meaningful change. We are excited to support LRBT in delivering tangible, lasting impact and look forward to expanding our efforts to ensure that more children, families, and communities benefit from quality eye care and medical support.
We are grateful to LRBT and Read Foundation for their dedication and look forward to seeing the positive outcomes of this initiative. Together, we are restoring sight and transforming futures.
