A Beacon of Hope: Visiting The Noor Project’s Transformative Community Initiatives

The news

The final stop on Director Tashmina Hoque’s recent visit to Lahore was at The Noor Project, where she was greeted with the warmest of welcomes by the remarkable team. A long-standing partner of The COSARAF Charitable Foundation, The Noor Project continues to make a profound impact in the local community through its school, vocational training programs, and girls’ orphanage.

The visit began with a tour of their well-established school, which was alive with the energy of engaged and happy students. The classrooms reflected the dedication of the teachers and the eagerness of the children to learn. Adjacent to the school is the newly constructed five-floor vocational training center, a dynamic facility offering training in sewing, beauty, cooking and catering, web design, and IT skills.

The Noor Project team shared the transformative potential of this center. Many of the web design students are expected to secure remote work with international companies, earning salaries of up to $500 per month—an income that can significantly change lives for these young adults and their families. Both the school and the vocational center stand as exemplary models, providing valuable insights and inspiration for the development of the FBF Centre of Excellence.

Tashmina also had the privilege of visiting The Noor Project’s girls’ orphanage, a space that fosters an environment of positivity and empowerment. The enthusiasm and engagement of the girls were truly inspiring. Despite the challenges and trauma they may have faced, the girls are thriving in a nurturing and supportive home that equips them to excel in diverse areas, from sports to nursing.

The tour also included a visit to the build site of the orphanage’s new extension. The planned improvements will include a commercial kitchen, a laundry facility, and smaller, more private rooms for the older girls, offering them increased privacy and comfort as they grow. The extension is expected to significantly enhance the girls’ living conditions, while also addressing the ongoing damp issues in the current facilities.

During the visit, Tashmina met with The Noor Project’s co-founder, Amjad Wattoo. His passion and vision for the project’s future were both infectious and deeply inspiring. His leadership and commitment are evident in the lasting impact the organisation has made in the community.

The Noor Project stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through compassion, innovation, and dedication. Tashmina left confident that their work will continue to transform lives, create opportunities, and empower the local community for generations to come.
