The Foundation has confirmed a new grant to Age UK to support its Call in Time telephone befriending service.
Call In Time provides a weekly telephone call to older people who are feeling lonely where volunteers and beneficiaries form lasting and genuine friendships.
Through this service, Age UK also help people to better connect with their communities: a fifth of people who benefit from the service go on to attend social clubs they wouldn’t have attended otherwise and increase their social contact in the community.
99% of volunteers would recommend volunteering for this service. 96% of beneficiaries said it made them feel less lonely and 68% said their wellbeing had improved a lot since they started receiving regular calls.
