Fahmida Sheikh passes away

It is great sadness that we advise you of the passing away of our dear mother Mrs Fahmida Begum Sheikh wife of the late Sheikh Abdul Rashid on 11th March 2014.

‘Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’oon’ (Surah Al Baqara verse 2:156)

‘Surely we belong to the Almighty and to Him shall we return’ (translation)

Tragically widowed at the young and tender age of 28, she devoted her life to the raising of her 4 children, Haroon, Farouq and our 2 sisters Rukhsana and Naureen.

She lived for her children and grandchildren and made heavy personal sacrifices in caring and supporting us all. Our wives Saba and Seema, and all of us are eternally indebted to her for the way she shaped our thinking and for providing us such a loving and stable environment.

She was a very pious and inspiring lady – deeply committed to her faith and her principles of integrity, equality, morality, caring for and sharing with others.

Her simplicity personified her beauty and she had an aura ( a ‘noor’) that touched all those who were lucky enough to meet her. She lived for others and was happiest with family and friends around her.

She passed away very peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.

She will be sadly missed by many – she was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, beloved sister and a true friend and confidant to all those that came to know her.

She spent 9 memorable years of marriage with our dear father Sheikh Abdul Rashid – the memories and good times during those years carried her through the trials and tribulations afterwards.  After some 50 years of being apart we believe she is now united with her ‘Maker’ and the man who was truly the love of her life! Knowing that comforts us greatly at this sanguine time – however the void that has been left by her will be hard to fill.

We kindly ask you all to say a prayer that the Almighty blesses our dear Mother, makes her onward journey easy and gives her a place in the highest of Heavens’ – Ameen.
